Review: Modular TinyHouse Portal at New Housing 2025 in Karlsruhe
On the last weekend of June, we were at the New Housing – Tiny House Festival 2025 in Karlsruhe with the Modulhaus-TinyHouse-Portal. Over the past few years, the trade fair has become an important meeting place for anyone interested in alternative forms of housing – from tiny houses to modular living concepts.
What particularly caught our attention
The festival was well attended – sunshine outside, lots of curious visitors, and a wide range of tiny houses and modular buildings to touch. Even more exciting than the buildings themselves, however, were the conversations we had there.
Many people came with very specific questions:
- How much does a tiny house really cost – finished, connected, and habitable?
- Are there providers that combine sustainable materials with sophisticated technology?
- And most importantly: Where am I even allowed to live like this?
Three of many encounters
What particularly impressed us were the diverse stories and motivations of the trade fair visitors:
There was a woman who works for a traditional construction company – she wanted to get an idea of how a company could effectively position itself in the modular home segment.
Another visitor was looking for a tiny house for herself so she could live more simply and consciously in the future – with fewer possessions, but with a higher quality of life.
And a friendly couple in their 50s talked about their idea for a communal housing project: each with their own small modular home, but with a central meeting space – a kind of small village, self-organized.
Such conversations show: There is interest in new forms of living – and it’s serious.
Perspectives for providers
Some manufacturers and suppliers we spoke with also see the trade fair as a valuable opportunity to engage directly with interested parties. It became clear: Demand is there, but it’s becoming more demanding.
People are looking not just for the most beautiful house on wheels, but for a well-thought-out, complete package – technically, legally, and financially. Orientation is more important than ever.
With the Modulhaus-TinyHouse-Portal, we want to address precisely this: An independent platform that makes suppliers visible and makes it easier for end users to get started – without advertising, without sales pressure, with a focus on clarity and comparability.
Our conclusion
New Housing 2025 was a fantastic opportunity for us to experience the scene firsthand – with many honest conversations, new contacts, and insights that we’ll take home with us.
We’re already working on featuring some of the manufacturers we met on our portal.
The trade fair confirmed one thing: the need for new housing solutions is there – and growing.
