First impressions.

It was a spontaneous action. A few days before the trade fair weekend in July 2022, I happened to come across the New Housing website in Karlsruhe on the Internet. A tiny house festival in the middle of Germany. What if that wasn’t a sign? I wanted to go there. Find out more, look at tiny houses and get the feeling of what this scene is all about. The weather was kind to the around 40 exhibitors and the numerous visitors. Interior design exhibitors, as well as associations and clubs, were represented inside the building. There was also the opportunity to learn in detail about topics such as: B. Finding property, sustainability or tiny house communities. In the spacious inner courtyard of the exhibition center were the tiny houses on display and a few food trucks with delicious dishes from bowls to homemade fruit ice cream. Under some shady trees, relaxed visitors sat on the lawn to enjoy a cool drink and watch the hustle and bustle.

How exciting! The first time in a tiny house

The area was manageable and gave me the opportunity to view all the different tiny houses. The number of visitors was too high to stay in a house for a little longer, but I was able to get a feel for what makes a tiny house so special. It’s simply a way of life. A feeling. A desire for simplicity. “Simplify your life!” Entering a tiny house for the first time creates a special tension, a curiosity. The smell of wood and the idea of being close to nature creates a special atmosphere. “What would it be like to live or work in a tiny house?” This question has been with me more intensively since attending the festival. It was interesting to talk to so many providers. Of course, I also heard a lot of conversations on the sidelines. There were questions from newcomers like me, but also specific and very individual questions, such as: B. for laying electrical cables, insulation, etc.  For me, the visitors were a friendly mix of people of all ages.

A tiny house – why?

The reason for visiting the trade fair may also have been different for everyone. There is the father who is looking for a holiday home for himself and his family with three small children. There is the sporty, young-at-heart couple in their early 60s who want to downsize. And there is the entrepreneur who wants a tiny house as an office. Different needs that the providers of tiny houses will certainly be able to meet as development progresses. Just like the tiny house industry is still in its infancy, my personal tiny house wish feels like the beginning of a journey. Exciting and exciting. In any case, the beginning has been made.

Conclusion:

My personal trade fair conclusion: Due to the current zeitgeist, the tiny house trend will certainly continue to develop. In any case, I’m already looking forward to the next New Housing Tiny House Festival 2023 in Karlsruhe. In any case, my “tiny house love” was awakened.
